Applied Religious Studies
The Department of Religious Studies at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Applied Religious Studies to begin August 2022. The successful candidate must contribute to the applied dimensions of the department’s programs and be capable of assuming leadership of the department’s MA program. Taking an applied approach means we work with a variety of community partners to incorporate learning opportunities into our courses that prepare our students for careers and advanced graduate study. The department has longstanding relationships with alumni working in a variety of applied professions and settings, including in nonprofit organizations, health care, education, business, and law. We anticipate this hire building on and cultivating new partnerships in one or more of these fields.
At the time of appointment, applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a related field with a vibrant research agenda in an area that compliments the department’s focuses, which include religion, race, and change; religion, gender, and sexuality; religion, health, and humanity; and/or the study of religion. Successful applicants must have teaching experience at the university level and should demonstrate an ability to contribute to program development, student advising and mentoring. We welcome applicants whose research and pedagogical interests may contribute to the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Religious Studies.
